I feel a little lucky, having seen a number of UFOs over the years:
My first UFO sighting was back in the early sixties as a kid living in southern California. We (parents and 2 siblings) had gone out for dinner and coming home, driving up our street, slight incline, heading east. I think it was late summer or early fall - it was a warm evening, Mom and Dad in front seat, me and sister, brother in the back seat. Seems like the top was down (Buick convertible). I don't know what time it was, but it was dark and the sky was relatively clear. Just a minute before my dad turned into our driveway I heard him say "what the h**** is that?" and "is that the moon?". Back over the foothills, was a yellow-white round light, as large as the full moon would be. I would guess this object was about 3 miles east from where we were on the street. We stopped just short of the driveway and watched the object slowly and smoothly descend, without any noise, behind the hills. I never saw anything like it again, but many years later (and in a different state) both of my daughters would see something very similar while driving home one night.
Another time (S. Calif, mid sixties), I was out on the front deck with my dad looking at the stars. I remember him pointing out the Pleiades and saying "look, the Seven Sisters". Anyway, we both observed two red cigar/flint-shaped objects, flying parallel to each other, moving quickly towards the east. It's hard to say how high they were, I'm guessing higher than regular aircraft would fly during that time.
April 1984 or 85, I went with my friend one afternoon to pick up her son. It was a partly cloudy, warm afternoon, large white thunderheads stacking up from the northwest. We arrived to find her son standing in the driveway and looking up at the sky. He was so engrossed in what he saw that at first he didn't even acknowledge our arrival. Finally he said "look up there" and pointed to a patch of blue sky between the looming thunderheads. I saw at least white 5 orbs, situated in a circular formation. The orbs moved/rotated slowly as a unit, clockwise. Their size was much smaller than an aspirin held at arm's length. This sighting lasted about a minute until the cloud moved over them.
Back in 2000, I stood out in my driveway (we lived in the country at the time) one August night around 10 PM hoping to catch the Perseid meteor shower. The moon was in the south, and there were puffy clouds, so I wasn't having much luck seeing any meteors. I was about to give up and go in, when clouds moved and covered the moon so that it got a little darker. I decided to wait a minute and looked up toward the northwest to a patch of clear sky. I saw something big up there, above the clouds, suddenly move so fast, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. It was a massive disc, perfectly round, no detail. It seemed to be flat and had no metallic shine, rather dark gray - it seemed to be absorbing or reflecting light from the ground. It had no structural lights and made no sound. It was huge - I compared it's size to that of my thumbnail if I held my arm straight out. This disc had zipped into my line of sight in a straight line from the north to almost directly overhead. Then it made an immediate 90-degree turn with no hesitation or reduction in speed, like a ricochet, and continued on toward the east, disappearing in the clouds. The sighting lasted only 2-3 seconds!
2008 or 2009 (?, can't remember) early summer, about 1:30 a.m., lightning from an approaching thunderstorm woke me up. I got up and went to the window (facing east) and saw four round lights, lined up horizontally but tilted slightly ~20 degrees. They were at least the same size as headlights on a car, but I know they weren't because I was looking out a 2nd floor window and these lights were at the same level or slightly higher as the neighbor's porch (i.e. I didn't have to look way up or down). The weird thing I remember about this sighting was that I didn't feel all that alarmed by it. It seemed like the lights were shining through the maple tree in the neighbors front yard, so I guess this thing was maybe hovering over the street. I remember saying to myself "what the heck is that" and then I think I got back in bed. The next morning I wasn't sure if it had really happened or if I dreamed it. I think I reported this one to NUFORC.
June 12, 2011 - (reported this sighting to MUFON) - As I was going up the stairs to bed, 11-11:30 pm, I paused for a moment at the window to catch a look at the sky. It was a clear night so I was able to see a number of stars. I saw what at first I thought was a bright star, at least as large and bright as Venus, but quickly realized it was moving in toward the east, from west. I assumed it was a satellite, although it seemed too large and bright. Stuff like this always interests me so I quickly got upstairs and went to the window on the east side of the house and waited for it to show up. 10 or 15 seconds later, there it was - moving as quickly as an airplane. The white light didn't blink or flash, and there were no other colors. As I watched it travel away from me, I saw it suddenly zig-zag or make jerking movements (left to right) and then return to it's linear course, retaining a general direction towards the east. Whoa! Satellites don't zig-zag!
So, there's my sighting "history" to date. Enjoy!
