I thought I'd add my recollection of something that I saw years ago. I was stationed at an Air Force base in Louisiana in the mid to late 1980s. I was living in base housing, toward the "back" of the base. I stepped out into my front yard one day and saw what struck me as looking like a burning log floating in the sky. It was a bright, clear day. This thing... I suppose could have been called cigar shaped, but at the time that didn't occur to me. It just looked like a burning log, with the flames going upward from the top of the thing. No smoke was coming from it, and it was not moving, or was moving so slowly that I couldn't tell it. I remember trying to compare it's position with that of a branch on the large pine tree in my yard, but it was hard to tell if it was going anywhere or not. Anyway, I watched it for some time, and wondered if I could follow it in my van, if it did start moving. After watching it for some time with no changes happening, I started to think about the fact that this thing was burning, and not falling from the sky... and if it was actually from some other civilization.. who knows what kind of energy might be leaking from it. I started to think that maybe too much curiousity might not be the wisest thing. It made no sound and I couldn't tell how big it was or how high up it was, since there was nothing in the sky to compare it to. I eventually just went inside the house, since it wasn't doing anything but hanging there, motionless. I went back outside later and it was gone, but I never heard or saw anything on the news about it. Thinking back on it later, I realized that this base had ..... um... bombs stored nearby, and not just anyone could have been flying over it without some kind of response. I mean, it would not have gone unnoticed by air traffic controllers, the alert crews, etc. I know it was not an airplane, or balloon. It had nothing hanging beneath it. No windows that I could see.
Years later, I had started to wonder if maybe I just thought I remembered it, and it had maybe been a super vivid dream or something, so I asked my wife if she remembered anything about it and she said she remember when I told her that I was going to drive down the road to the side gate to see if that had been any kind of crash, or if the thing had landed. I remember going toward the horse stable, which was all that was down that road, and seeing nothing.
Not as exciting as someone being chased by one, but that's fine with me! I do sometimes wish I had just waited it out to see if it just vanished, or if the flames died out and it flew off, or just WHAT happened to it, but then again, I had thoughts of getting eaten up with cancer from exposure to radiation or something, and chickened out.
