Here's one for the MUFON suggestion box:
Make all UFO witnesses identifications a matter of public record after a period of time.
The amount of information revealed can be minimum such a the person's full name, general area, and a way of contact such as an e-mail address, facebook account or messages could be fowarded to the witness through MUFON.
The reason for this is simple. A real person adds vadility to a report and it also makes the organization seem transparent. There is a lot of suspicion directed at MUFON. This is one way to quell some of that suspicion.
We live in a democracy. You are a free to report what you see or not. There is no in between.

This has to be one of the poorest suggestions I've read. Some people, well most, are afraid to report UFO sightings for fear of being ridiculed. Your suggestion would make sure most would not report what they saw.
I could go for general locations, time and what was observed and nothing more.

The reason why witnesses identities need to be kept secret is because otherwise there won't be any witnesses. The people who are trying to cover up the truth about UFOs and abductions routinely harrass, intimidate and humiliate witnesses in an attempt to force them into silence. It works very well, especially when people end up losing their jobs and their careers because of the ridicule that is heaped upon them. Nobody wants to put up with that.

Secrecy may be necessary while a case is under investigation but it's always better to be as transparent as possible. I believe the public has a right to know what is going on and should not just put their trust in a volunteer organization or the government. Ridicule may be an unfortunate consequence in some cases but welcome to democracy. Instead of being lied to maybe you should say something.

I believe many UFO cases will receive very little attention. I don't think most will care if someone reports lights in the sky or an unknown object. Be transparent. Make the information appear credible where a person can see actual people are reporting UFOs. Capitalize on good UFO cases. A UFO organization can benefit from good publicity. John Doe reports tend to go unoticed and that does not help the bottom line.

In my opinion, it should be up to the person reporting an incident/sighting as to whether their name is made public or not. If it is a MUFON investigative report, I believe that anonymity should be honored. All it takes is one or two people to complain about their names being used after asking to remain anonymous, and that could have a detriment on future interviews.
To quote: "Ridicule is way over exaggerated" I don't think so. I don't think this subject should be minimized in today's internet age. One person who gets turned down for a job over an internet posting would disagree with that statement.
Having Jimmy's last name or an email address is not necessarily going to sway my opinion one way or the other.
