This is my first posting, and, in fact, is only my second time visiting this site and forum. I have, on three separate occasions in my life, seen things I can't explain in the sky, and although I've never been secretive about the sightings, I've really never shared them anywhere like this either.
I personally think it is assinine for us to think we are the only intelligent life in the universe, so I definitely think there exists the possibility of alien visitation. However, I don't feel I have allowed that belief to cloud my judgment as to what I saw years ago.
I thought rather than pen an incredibly long and boring post giving details of all three sightings, I would instead chronicle one at a time, starting with the first, when I was a child.
I grew up in a small town in SW MO. One day, when I was probably around the age of 6 or 7, I was playing in the back yard. I recall it was a sunny day, probably in the spring or fall, because I don't remember it being all that warm. I am relatively sure it was in the afternoon, possibly rather late in the afternoon, because I seem to recollect that the sun was close to the horizon.
I was looking up at the sky. Why, I am not sure, just too long ago to remember such things, when I spotted some type of craft going over from west to east. As best as I can recollect, it looked like the fuselage of a plane, but without any sign of a wing. It was metallic, that much I am sure of. I don't really have a clue as to how high it was, but if memory serves me correctly, it was not a terribly high altitude like perhaps a jetliner, but rather more in the range of a small, prop driven plane.
It moved in a straight line and looking back, I think it was moving relatively slowly, as it was in sight for some time. The first thought that comes to mind, even now, is a blimp. However, I can still recall enough details of what I saw to feel that explanation just doesn't cut it. For one thing, I definitely had the feeling the surface of the object was metal, just not metallic colored.
Also, I have, as an adult, seem blimps a few times, and was always struck by slowly they seemed to pass. This object, I'm sure, was moving more quickly. Also, the shape just wasn't right, unless there were some blimps around in the 1950's that had a different configuration from the ones I have seen in recent years. What I saw was, I believe, longer, and more cylindrical in shape. I also did not see any appendage that would be the gondola.
Additionally, there was no noise, and I'm relatively sure it was a quiet day, and the altitude not great enough that I would not have noticed the sound from any prop-driven airship.
I recall going in the house and telling my Mom that I had seen a "rocket" go over our house, and that is likely because of the booster rockets I had seen on TV during the space race of those days. It was shaped like those boosters, but as I said before, seemed to be totally quiet.
I realize memory is somewhat selective, and that any 6 year old is highly susceptible to the power of suggestion, but even now, 50 plus years later, I still believe what I saw was not a blimp or conventional aircraft of the day. I don't know what it was, nor would I care to hazard a guess. I just know I saw it. I also do not have a clue as to whether it was seen by others. One would think so, but I've learned that often people witnessing strange things tend to keep them to themselves. A good friend of mine witnessed a ufo when he was in high school, but didn't share it with me, or anyone else, for many years for fear of ridicule.
Second installment (sighting) to come soon.
