Back in 2006 or 2007 i saw what i thought was a hospital helicopter coming my way. i lived next to the hospital so i thought it would turn and go that way. instead it just kept coming so i stood and watched. it came by to my east and was across the street and very close. slowly moving. it was square with 4 red lights very slowly pulsing. then it had two white flashing lights on top of each other. i become pretty scared as it was just across a street and over some houses and i knew it was not a helicopter or plane. it was absolutely silent. here is a drawing i made.

well done for having the sense to draw what you saw its a good way to add to the knowledge base.
And thanks for letting us see your drawing and report.

Red and white, steady and strobe lights are standard on aircraft ... used for navigation and in collision avoidance. Evidence of a one second white strobe ... would indicate terrestrial origins. I fly one of those legendary "Black" helicopters...dark gray actually with black belly and trim. In our small piece of turf, we wish not to be seen at times but we do retain the ability to see others. On NVG's....other aircraft cockpit lights are easy enough to see, position lights really stand out....and we can see strobes from maybe 200 miles away. On a clear night, we can watch the airliners lining up for two major airports in two other states. It makes for quite a show. When in "normal" situations we too use all of our lights to include the landing lights for recognition purposes. Our aircraft is equipped with white strobes, red anti-collision lights, and nav lights. In a pinch, we could also turn on the Nightsun and shine a wee 30 million candlepower white light towards someone. You would have to be an OLOG management type not to see that kind of light.

No it was only across the street and above the houses there. it was a square and made no noise. It could not have been a plane.

For real enthusiasts, I'd suggest investing in telescopes with nightvision etc.
It's like watching train spotters sitting 2 miles away from the tracks and trying to identify passing trains. I will only offer personal perspective at the moment - If I were developing new tech, I would be inclined to fit a couple of solid lights, and a flashing light, so anyone glacing up would think I'm a passing plane or copter. At night you're going to see little but the lights after all. It's the lovely glare effect.
On the other hand, if I happened to be "abnormal or from elsewhere" (haha), I think my limited grasp of observation and technology would tell me a small set of conventional looking lights would do the trick nicely too.
Developing something new and trying to blend in with a sodding great ring of fairy lights... sounds to me to be the equivalent of painting a bullseye on my ass.

I think one thing we need to consider here is .... if we believe that aliens are highly intelligent beings ... I doubt that they will use some types of lights for navigation. Always remember too that there is a very slim percentage that aliens look like humans. They are totally different type of specie.

NOT IF WE HAVE ORIGINS IN THAT SPECIES AND THEY HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE!

Always remember too that there is a very slim percentage that aliens look like humans. They are totally different type of specie. Perhaps they use the lights to disguise themselves as a human built aircraft so people will think they are from Earth. Or maybe it is a human built craft disguised to look like a UFO. Anything is possible...
