To begin, this is one of those ‘Back Burner Ideas’ I have had for the last year or so and for various reasons we feel this would be a great time to begin this effort!
As we all know, on Independence Day American Citizens are always out to the lakes and parks and all over the countryside shooting and watching firework displays! Over the last two years I have documented multiple sightings in many states on this date. Some, but not all of these sighting reports described the same type of objects, with the same flight patterns and color! (Orange Orbs/Lights) Last year, I recorded 33 sightings in 14 states and developed a timeline on some of these very well written and descriptive sighting Reports.
For Example: If one goes to the CMS and does a search under event date 7/4/2010 and a specific State, say MO. ... 9 sighting reports pop up and the Information from those cases that match will show you multiple sightings of Orange Orbs/Lights/Fireballs with some reports giving directions of flight paths and times of the sightings... From there it is very easy to make a time line and flight path for these Objects! Doing this from state to state is how we came to our conclusions about this project! This can be confirmed by anyone willing to go to the CMS and make the effort to go through sighting reports!
One of the reports yielded an off duty police officer who witnessed the same Orange Orb Object at close range, and had missing time, leading the Field Investigator to think ‘Possible Abduction’! At this point we realized that this is the one night of the year Americans are watching the sky above and that must be the reason for more reports coming in than usual! So the idea was born…
The Plan
The plan is twofold. First, the purpose of this idea is to yield positive results from the CMS & Public Involvement. At this time, Transparency and Openness is very important to the MUFON Public Profile. With the participation of the public, we plan to take sighting reports from the CMS as they are posted. We will go through the reports to analyze and categorize each report. This task will take several days to complete which the West Central Section, under the supervision of our State Director Norman Walker are willing to do. Note*Any and all Field Investigators are welcome to participate!
Second, once the reports have been compiled, we can search for consistencies in the reports to find common details from sighting to sighting. From there, it is possible to construct a timeline for some of these objects & possible flight paths! Once the Data is Complete, we will release our findings to the public via National/Section Websites ,The MUFON Journal and Social Networks such as Facebook!
The Pros
This Sky Watch will get more people to ‘see’ rather than ‘Spot an Object and I will explain that part next. The Graphic Draft included with this plan will be a Banner on the Section Websites will detail specifics for the public to use! Information on how to tell the difference between fireworks and a possible UFO! Remind them to have cameras and video equipment on hand and tips on how to photo or film and object better! These ideas are open to refine and the copy can say whatever we want to get across to the public on the Sky Watch! To surmise, we feel getting more of the public involved with us is a positive Investment from our Volunteers and our time! The more people that see a Real UFO in person, the higher the conversion rate will climb! The more believers there are, the closer we get to Disclosure Opinions/Efforts from the public! We also believe through this plan we will gain more public involvement and the potential to add more members as well!
The Cons
With this plan, one can only guess how many reports that might be generated as a result of this effort. It is possible that an increase in sighting reports could put a strain on some sections with limited resources. With careful scrutiny, the reports can be classed and rated for their importance as to an ‘On Site’ investigation. Tactics and methods can be worked out by neighboring sections to assist the section with whatever they need!
That’s it! That’s the only downside we can come up with as a result of this Project! This brings me to another point. We never know when a flap may occur. Case in Point, Stephenville Texas! During Mass Sightings, any given section will have to deploy all of its resources to the Investigation effort! If heavy reports flow in from your zone, take the opportunity to refine your group’s efficiency!
And Finally
The potential to effect positive progress through Transparency, Public Involvement, Group Readiness , Efficiency and Professionalism, we have everything to gain and nothing to lose! The sky is truly the limit with an Idea like this one. This could be an Annual Event that grows and grows every year? The Contact Email for this event is:
